Project 4

For project 4, my group is going to be working on fixing the parking problem at the student rec center. I feel a little bit rushed with this project since there's only so little time left in the semester and with everything else going on, this is really not something I have a lot of focus for. But I guess it has to be done and so our first step is to figure out an outline for the problem. We've already talked a bunch about some potential solutions, like installing an ID swipe system inside the building for parking so that it is known that the person parking in the lot is actually using the gym. The main problem lies in the fact that students will park their cars in the Rec lot, leave and go to class, and then other people who actually want to use the gym cannot find a parking space. If a free parking swipe system is installed past the entrance gates of the Rec and is swiped BY someone, the person will not be able to go in, swipe for parking and leave. They will be forced to only park there if they are using the gym. The other things our group will have to think about is how to set up the webpage and what kinds of designs, pictures, animations, etc. that we've learned in this class to use on the webpage.

YAY!!

Wow! I'm so proud of myself! I fixed up my page a lot and now it has these cool box titles with a wood paneling background! The only thing I'm having trouble with now is the slideshows. Three out of four of them won't center align, and on the computers in class, they weren't loading. On all other computers, they were, so I don't know what's going on. But I'm really excited about what I've done and I hope that everyone else likes it. I even added music to my one slideshow on my index page! Yay!!! :)

Project

So I'm finally getting somewhere with this project. I haven't talked to my friend yet, but I've done a lot all by myself. I'm kind of proud! :) I made a bunch of slideshows for pages that need multiple pictures so I wouldn't clog up the page with huge images. Also, I think it's more fun that way. I organized a little bit better and tried to add a menu bar, but I'm having trouble with the links. I can't seem to get them to stay on the image or center. And now the link colors are changing. It's really confusing.

I need to ask about a few things in class tomorrow, and maybe get some extra help with it. I think it will look really good when it's finished as long as I can get these kinks worked out...

I've been working on it too long now so I should probably just go get ready for work!

Happy Easter!

Well, it's Easter Sunday. I've had a sort of lonely day. Holidays are always hard without my mom. And I didn't even get to go home this year to see my dad or brother. I hope they did ok today. I went to Mass this afternoon, which was hard since its always so somber and then makes me feel like I want to cry. I had dinner at my boyfriend's family's house which was nice, but again, a big family together makes me realize what I don't have anymore. It's only been a year and a half, but it feels just like yesterday. I miss her so much...

RIP Mom

GRRR

Ok, so I've seriously been sitting at this dumb computer since 4:00 and now it's 7 and I really am more in trouble than I thought. I don't understand this CSS stuff -- it's driving me mad and I can't get anything to work on this stupid web site. I'm going to take a break now to calm down before I do something drastic like break this machine. My friend from home said he would help me out a little bit, and give me some CSS tips. I think that will help me a little bit. He pretty much makes websites at his job, so I know he'll be able to show me some stuff, even if he is 400 miles away!

I wish I could go home this weekend...

Good Friday

I can't believe it's Good Friday already. I guess it's strange since usually we have time between spring break and easter weekend. This year spring break was really late. I'm not going home this year since I've been out of town so much in the last month. I miss my dad though and holidays are always harder without my mom here these days. I know that I'll be all right though. I'm going to have easter dinner with Chris' family this year. At least I won't be alone.

Now, I'm really getting down to business with this crazy project today. I've gotta get something done or else this thing won't happen. I'm off to work!

Spring Break

Well, I'm back from Spring Break, sadly, and I have soo much work to do. The trip was fantastic -- perfect weather, perfect relaxation, beautiful countries and lottts of free food! I wish I could be on a cruise ship all the time! :)

Look at this crazy picture of me with a sea turtle:

Anyways, now I have to really get to work on this third project. I've been so busy I haven't had time to breathe it feels like, but I'll have to get moving if I want to make this thing look good. I'm a little worried because I don't really fully comprehend all the CSS stuff and I'm nervous that I'm just going to screw everything up. Hopefully I won't though and I'll still be able to get a good grade. I'm excited for this project, and I always have been, but I just wish time would hold still for a tinnnnny minute so I can accomplish SOMETHING.

Spring Break

I'm so excited for spring break! In my four years here, I haven't been able to afford a fun trip but this year I put my foot down! We're driving to Miami tomorrow afternoon through the night to get to the port where we'll get on a cruise to the Western Caribbean!!!! I've never been on a cruise but I love the sun and the beach and traveling, so I don't think this trip could get any better! First, we'll stop in Cozumel, Mexico ...

and maybe we'll go scuba diving or snorkeling!

The next stop after a day at sea is to the Cayman Islands! I've wanted to go here since my parents went years ago and came back talking about how they swam with stingrays and played with turtles at the Turtle Farm. I'm really excited about it!

I mean, look how beautiful it is!!!! The water is soo clear!

On our last stop, we're going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica!!! Man, I'll be so ecstatic to say I've been to Jamaica! There's this gorgeous waterfall there called Dunn's River Falls, and we get to climb up it. That will be exciting -- everyone that's been there keeps talking about if I only get to do one thing while I'm there to do that one. I don't think this is a picture of the waterfall I'm talking about, but I'm sure there are many other gorgeous ones over there.

I can't wait to go and finally have a week to relax instead of stressing out about work, school and other things. There's too much going on in my life sometimes and I'm soo excited I finally get to have a week for ME! Yay!

I'll write all about it when I get back next week! :) BYE!

FAQ Section

For the FAQ section of my project, I'll be addressing some questions such as what the website is for, what people can expect to see in the site, what the history and purpose of the site is and other things about why I chose to write about this particular space and more about who I am. I'll outline what I'm going to write here:

What is this website for?
The website has been made for my English 303: Multimedia Writing class. However, I like to think it's also been a way of helping me learn how to do this stuff on my own. I enjoy figuring out all this foreign html writing and seeing the end result on the Internet. It's pretty rewarding. I will definitely keep making sites like these in the future, thanks to this English class.

What can people expect to see here?
This project is pretty much a tour of my house in Morgantown. I take you through each of the rooms in the house and explain in detail why some pieces of furniture or collectibles are important to me and where they came from. Also, people can expect to see a much more complex website than the first project where it was all text. This time, there will be images, backgrounds, animations, formatting and colors.

What is the history and purpose of this site?
I started the site for my English class, and it started as just a bunch of pages with text on it. It is slowly turning into a more complex website with many different features on it. The purpose is to give people a look into my little house in Morgantown and show them why it's important to me.

New project

I think I'll focus on adding some more reflective and narrative text to my project. However, I already have 14 pages from when I first did the project since there were so many rooms in my house to begin with. So, I won't need to add too much text to make the project 10 pages, since I'm already over that, too. But I think adding some other stories about certain things in my house - like a fun story about my mom since I have photos of her or a funny incident about the heaters breaking down again - will add a little color to visualizing the house.

Since I already have so many pages and so much text, I want to focus more on designing the website in terms of format and photographs. My goal is a clean, organized and fun tour of my house so I'm hoping to do that with good formatting.

If I added too much more text, viewers might get a little overwhelmed since I already have so much!

Hello

Hi! This is my new blog!

For my English 303 class, I'll be starting work on Project 3. I'll be using this blog mostly for that class and project. For my first project, I worked on a "my space" project describing my house in Morgantown. For the third project I'll be re-working that idea to make it look more exciting and I'll be adding on to the ideas I talked about in the beginning. I am really excited to add images to the project, because that way the viewers will get a better understanding of what objects I'm talking about in my house. Since I already had 14 pages on the first project, I probably won't need to elaborate on much more since I worked hard on that in the beginning.

I suppose some keywords I would use would be the names of my pages, such as bed, DVDs, kitchen, living room, bookshelf, mom, porch, table, heater, etc. I'll elaborate more with stories about my mom and maybe my favorite DVDs.

For the layout, I will definitely want to include images on most every page and have a clean set up so that it looks more like a real web page.

I'm looking forward to revamping the page!!
